Hoofstep Odyssey

This series of oil and acrylic paintings explores how horses interact with a structured world that was built by them, not for them. As masters of awareness, horses teach us humans to reconnect with ourselves and the world in a more authentic way. The equine subject's journey through dreamy sky scapes and otherworldly structures illustrates this noble quest of presence and connection.

Jet Ways

This series of layered drawings and paintings explores intriguing conceptual parallels between the worlds of horsemanship and aviation.
The first several paintings combine the equine subject with flight paths traced in real time, then cut into the paper and filled in with color.
The current project explores weather as a connection point between riding and flying, highlighting the fascinating ability of horses and aircraft to make us aware of forces our own senses cannot pick up on. By piloting a horse or an airplane, our eyes can be opened.

Anna Ruby Whitmire is an equine artist, horsewoman, and educator born in Nags Head, North Carolina and raised in Greenville, South Carolina.By combining equine subjects with visuals from the realms of architecture, cartography, and aviation, her paintings and drawings explore the relationship between horses, humans, and the fast-moving landscapes of today. Her work has been exhibited at the Bascom Gallery, the Milliken Gallery of Converse University, and Biafarin Online, and published in Clover & Bee Magazine, Artistonish Magazine, and Horse Country Quarterly.She received a BA in Art Education from Converse University in 2025, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Visual Art at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.
